The Ridge was the first project undertaken by Ironwood in 2007. It is a collection of duplex, three and fourplex buildings all located at the base of the Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton, B.C. A tight building site and steep grades made for some challenging design.
The owner of this unit was adamant he have a lot of windows. Each time I thought I had more than enough, he asked for more. I almost ran out of wall space.Threeplex unit on the left and fourplex units on the right. Photo was taken from the lower level parking area at the base of the resort.Another view of the unit facing the lodge. The trussed entry at the bottom is another suite below garage level. All the snow and icicles make for and awesome shot of this building. Much cozier to be inside than out on a day like this.Interesting use of some twisted log handrail.Three storey vaulted living room. The spaces are tight but the open ceiling makes it feel much larger. The rooms above have windows looking down into the living area. The extensive use of fir beams and decking throughout gives a rustic and solid feel. The styling of the kitchen fits well with the decor and and modernizes the typical mountain cabin feel. This seating area was used as a billiard room. Much more useful! The view from this bedroom across the resort is stunning. A small deck has views to the base of the ski runs. These duplex units walk directly out to the ski runs. Truly a ski-in & ski-out building. All units were finished with simple and durable materials; fiber cement board & batten siding with fir accents. The season short to get finishing done before snow and these materials fit the bill.
